The deal, valued at USD 1.64 billion, was announced on Thursday by Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Bejda during a government delegation's visit to South Korea.

"The acquisition of these launcher modules and guided missiles marks a significant advancement in our defense capabilities, incorporating 122mm rocket ammunition produced by the Polish arms industry," Bejda stated on X.

South Korean conglomerate Hanwha Aerospace confirmed the signing, detailing that the agreement includes the supply of 72 Chunmoo artillery launchers to Poland.

The contract is an extension of a larger deal agreed in 2022, initially negotiated by Poland's previous defence minister, Mariusz Błaszczak.

This earlier agreement encompassed the delivery of 218 launchers, complete with a training and logistics support package, and a reserve of ammunition, marking it as South Korea's largest-ever arms transaction.

Hanwha Aerospace said that the new agreement would come into force following the signing of a separate financial contract, expected before the end of November, with backing from the government.

During their visit, the Polish officials engaged in discussions at the South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration, focusing on the execution and financing of contracts with the South Korean partner.

According to reports cited by the Reuters news agency and originating from South Korean media, the Polish delegation also visited several export credit agencies, including Korea Export-Import Bank, to further discuss financial terms.
